A teenage youth was found dead just days following being wrongly accused of taking the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest heard how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes generated online comments, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the family by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not receive that message.

Formal Conclusion

Lead investigator informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his questioning he was released whilst investigations continued."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any agency led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
